Wiener or minimum mean square error filtering has been a driving force in
communication technologies. However, the minimum mean square error design does not
guarantee the minimum bit error rate performance. This talk presents an
alternative adaptive minimum bit error rate filtering approach that minimises the
achievable system's bit error rate.

Professor Chen is with the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University
of Southampton.  He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of IET (FIET), a
Fellow of IEEE (FIEEE).
